How to Get a Smile That Would Even Make Santa Himself Feel Jealous

Veneers Albuquerque NMIf you have a smile that you aren’t exactly proud of, then why wait any longer to fix it? Here at Dr. Steven Holbrook’s office, we offer patients a variety of different cosmetic dental procedures to help you get the smile that you’ve always wanted. Rather than asking Santa for the same old thing again this year, why not ask for the smile you’ve been wanting? Let’s take a closer look at a few ways that you can get a new smile that would even make Santa jealous.

Porcelain veneers can kind of be compared to one stop shopping. By sanding down your existing teeth and then placing thin porcelain veneers over the top, we can help correct a variety of issues including crooked teeth, chipped teeth, stained teeth, small teeth, or teeth that you simply aren’t too fond of. During your initial veneers consult, we will take a closer look at the different sizes, shapes. and colors of veneers that we have to help you land on the ones that will give you the best possible smile.

If you feel like you have a hard time saying “cheese” because of the color of your teeth, then you may want to consider getting your teeth professionally whitened. Here at our office. we use a take-home whitening system called Opalescence which uses a combination of bleach and customized whitening trays to help patients, like you, achieve the smile that you’ve been wanting.

Whether you have had braces in the past and it didn’t work or if you have never had any sort of straightening done on your smile, then you may want to consider Invisalign. The great thing about Invisalign is that instead of a mouth full of metal brackets and wires, it uses clear aligner trays to help patients achieve a straight smile. Skip feeling sorry about your smile and get one that would have Santa and all of his reindeer feeling a little bit jealous. If you want to learn more about these options, contact our Albuquerque office today and call us at (505) 881.1159.

3 Types of Dental Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Albuquerque NMNobody wants to smile in front of the camera with a mouth full of brown or yellow teeth. With Christmas cards and a lot of photos to post on social media, now is the perfect time to get rid of your stained teeth and embrace newly whitened teeth. Here at Steven E. Holbrook’s office, we have three types of dental whitening options that we offer patients depending on the severity of your tooth discoloration and your lifestyle.

Home Whitening

If you have tooth sensitivity, then home whitening may be the perfect thing for you. Why? At home tooth whitening is convenient and gentle because the concentration of hydrogen peroxide and whitening ingredients are much lower.

Power Whitening

If you want really fast results, then power whitening will be the trick for you. During this one-hour visit, we will apply a special whitening gel to the teeth which will help give you immediate results. So, if you are looking for a really fast way to get visibly whiter teeth then power whitening may be the perfect solution for you.

Deep whitening

If you have more than just surface stains, then you may want to consider deep whitening. Deep whitening combines both home whitening and power whitening to help give you the best results possible. To start out, we will combine two weeks of at home whitening with a comprehensive one-hour whitening session.

It can be frustrating to use over-the-counter whitening toothpaste and not get any results. During your initial consultation with Dr. Holbrook at our office, he will take a close look at your teeth and determine which type of whitening solution will give you the best results possible. Then from there, we will get started on getting you one step closer to having a brighter, whiter smile.

Are you ready to get a whiter smile? Schedule your consultation at our Albuquerque office and contact us at (505) 881-1159.

How to Get Rid of Coffee Stained Teeth

Teeth Whitening Albuquerque NMYou wake up every morning and the first thing you do is make a piping hot cup of coffee and then a few hours later you stop off at your local coffee shop and grab another freshly brewed cup. Let’s face it, coffee is what gets a lot of people going in the morning and without it, we may as well sleep all day long. Even though coffee can give you that energy boost that you need every day to keep going, it can also cause some serious damage to your teeth; especially when it comes to surface stains. If you have coffee stained teeth but can’t seem to get rid of the stains, then this article will list a few ways that you can hopefully get whiter teeth in no time.

Drink Water Afterward

One of the keys to drinking coffee without staining your teeth is to follow up each cup with an entire glass of water. Water will work to wash away the stains on your teeth and make it so that they don’t sit on your teeth for very long as well. Plus, water will keep you hydrated,

Water Down Your Coffee

If you are an avid black coffee drinker, then the coffee you drink is more acidic than those who add a splash of milk. To help dilute your coffee and its staining power, consider adding a little bit of milk (skip the sugar) to it every day to help make it, so it’s less likely to stain your teeth.

Use Whitening Toothpaste

Another thing that you want to do is use an over-the-counter whitening toothpaste. Whitening toothpaste will work to help you get rid of surface stains on your teeth so that you can get a whiter, healthier smile in no time.

Get Your Teeth Professionally Whitened

In addition to using the three tips we have already listed above, why not give professional teeth whitening from Dr. Steven Holbrook a try? During your tooth whitening consultation, we will go over all of your whitening options and help you pick one that is good for your smile.

Drinking coffee may be something that you are never going to give up, but that doesn’t mean that you also have to give up on your dreams of having a whiter smile as well.

3 Things You May Not Know About Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Albuquerque NMIf you lived through the 90’s, then you’ve likely seen your fair share of FRIENDS episodes and may recall the one where Ross gets his teeth whitened so much that they glow in the dark. And although Dr. Steven Holbrook can try his hardest to get your teeth to glow in the dark, it luckily likely won’t happen. If you have been wanting to get your teeth professionally whitened without having to look like Ross in the process, then this article is for you. From tooth sensitivity to upkeep, this article will discuss three things you may not know about teeth whitening.

Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity can be a real pain in the mouth; especially when you’re trying to enjoy a bowl of ice cream. One common side effect of any type of teeth whitening is an increase in tooth sensitivity. Normally, this should subside fairly quickly. You can also use an anti-sensitivity toothpaste like Sensodyne to help alleviate the pain and irritation.

Tooth Whitening Is Not For Everyone

You have stained, discolored teeth so you can get them whitened, right? It just depends on the cause of your stains. For instance, if your teeth are stained a greyish color because you were given medication like tetracycline when you were little, teeth whitening won’t work. If, however, your teeth are only discolored because of food and other factors, then we usually can whiten your teeth.

Whitening Requires Upkeep

Even though one really good in-office whitening session is going to get your teeth whiter faster than at-home treatments, they will still require a little bit of upkeep— especially if you’re a coffee, black tea, or red wine drinker. Depending on how well your teeth take to whitening and your lifestyle choices, we will determine just how often you should have your teeth whitened.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Teeth Whitening

How to Get the Most Out of Your Teeth Whitening | Albuquerque NMWhitening your teeth is one of the fastest and easiest ways that you can transform your smile from drab to fab. Here at Dr. Steven Holbrook’s office, we use at-home dental whitening trays and bleach to help whiten your teeth up to several shades whiter than they were before.

During your initial appointment, we will create molds for your dental trays, and you will pick them up at your second appointment. But, how can you get the most out of your teeth whitening experience? Try these three tips.

Teeth Whitening Tips

Don’t Skip a Day

Because we use an at-home whitening treatment at Dr. Steven Holbrook’s office, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you are using it every day. Remember that if you skip a few days, it’s going to take that much longer to get the maximum results. If you’re having a hard time remembering to whiten your teeth, try keeping them right by your bathroom sink as a reminder.

Use a Whitening Toothpaste

One of the best ways to get the most out of your teeth whitening is to follow up with whitening toothpaste every time you brush. Over-the-counter whitening toothpaste contains ingredients like hydrogen peroxide which help you get rid of surface stains from food and beverages— leaving your teeth whiter for longer.

Watch What You Drink

Even though there are scientific studies out there pointing to the health benefits of beverages like red wine and black coffee, they are terrible for your teeth. Not only can coffee and red wine stain your teeth almost immediately but coffee is very acidic which means that it can erode away your enamel. Try cutting down on coffee, black tea, and red wine. Or, if you have to have a glass or two, make sure to drink a glass of water afterward to prevent it from staining your teeth.

3 Things to Know About Dental Whitening

Teeth Whitening Albuquerque NMThere are some trends, like 1980’s perms, that luckily fade. But there are others, like having your teeth professionally whitened, that are here to stay. If you have yellow teeth due to surface stains, Dr. Steven Holbrook has got you covered. With professionally teeth whitening, we can help you get rid of those surface stains and reveal a whiter, brighter smile in the process. To help you decide if teeth whitening is the right solution for you, we have created a brief list of some basic things to know. Let’s take a closer look.

It Isn’t Always Permanent

Even though getting your teeth professionally whitened by Dr. Steven Holbrook is the fastest and most efficient way to whiten your teeth, dental whitening isn’t always permanent. In fact, we encourage our patients to use a daily whitening toothpaste to help get rid of surface stains caused by food and beverages. Additionally, you may need to come in every few years to have your teeth whitened.

It May Cause Sensitivity

One of the things that many patients aren’t aware of when it comes to dental whitening— even over-the-counter kinds— is that it can cause tooth sensitivity. Luckily, the sensitivity should subside, but until it does, you can help to combat it with a simple over-the-counter toothpaste for sensitive teeth like Sensodyne.

It Works

The best news about getting your teeth professionally whitened by a dentist like Dr. Steven Holbrook is that it works on most patients with surface stains on their teeth! In fact, after your first visit, you will notice a visibly whiter smile that you can show off right away!

The Truth Behind Charcoal Toothpaste

The Truth Behind Charcoal Toothpaste | Steven E. Holbrook, DMD | Albuquerque NMIt seems like all across Facebook and Instagram, people are claiming that charcoal toothpaste is giving them the whitest teeth of their lives. Although charcoal is naturally occurring with some unique health benefits (especially for your skin), there may be some oral concerns.

Charcoal Toothpaste Risks

  • Yellowing: Your initial instinct to avoid rubbing anything black across your teeth, has some scientific standing. According to a recent article published in the Journal of The American Dental Association, some charcoal toothpaste may do the opposite effect of whitening and may yellow your teeth.
  • Toxicity: Another thing to consider when using a product that contains charcoal— especially orally— is the toxicity of it. Although charcoal can have some health benefits, it’s important to find out where it was derived from.
  • Enamel: One of the main benefits that charcoal toothpaste claim to have is the ability to scrub your teeth of stains because they contain abrasives. However, although charcoal is a naturally abrasive substance, there is a concern that it’s too abrasive. It may actually erode away your enamel. Remember that your teeth are delicate and that although brushing them is a great way to get rid of surface stains, too much abrasiveness can cause permanent damage.

Professional Teeth Whitening

  • Consider Professional Whitening: Let’s Face it, it’s better to be safe than sorry. This is especially when it comes to your oral care. We encourage our patients to give professional tooth whitening from DR. Steven Holbrook a try because we know that we can give most patients real results almost every time. However, if you are interested in trying an over-the-counter whitening remedy, skip the charcoal toothpaste altogether. Invest in a toothpaste or dental product that has The American Dental Association’s stamp of approval on it.

Is Tooth Whitening Making You Feel Sensitive? What You Need to Know

Is Tooth Whitening Making You Feel Sensitive? What You Need to Know | Steven E. Holbrook, DMD | Albuquerque NM Getting ready for the holidays is all about looking and feeling your best. As one of the best ways to make sure that you stick out in your family pictures and that you have good enough photos to post to Instagram is to get a brighter, whiter smile. However, with both in-office and over-the-counter whitening, sometimes patients experience sensitive, sore teeth. Here are a few things to know about tooth sensitivity.

It’s Not Permanent

The good news about tooth sensitivity caused by teeth whitening is that it’s not permanent. In fact, it should go away as soon as you stop using the whitening products. However, if you suffered from tooth sensitivity before you ever started whitening them, then it may be caused by something else altogether— but we should be able to treat it.

You Can Take a Break

If your tooth sensitivity is making things like eating a yummy bowl of holiday peppermint ice cream or drinking a cup of hot chocolate too painful to enjoy, consider taking a break from whitening. Sometimes by taking just a week or two off of whitening, you can find fast relief and then start it back up again.

Toothpaste May Help

If you just don’t want to take a break from tooth whitening or if you feel like the tooth sensitivity you are experiencing isn’t bad enough, then you may want to consider using toothpaste for sensitive teeth (like Sensodyne) in conjunction with your whitening.

Most sensitivity caused by tooth whitening is both preventable and treatable. If you are experiencing sensitivity after using either over-the-counter whitening strips or after coming in to get professional whitening, contact our office today.

How to Smile Brighter This Season

Teeth Whitening Albuquerque NMThe holidays are finally here! Whether you are traveling to spend time with family or if you are hosting the holidays at your home, there’s one thing that’s for certain: there is magic in the air. And with parties to attend and pictures to be taken, it’s important that you look and feel your best. If you have a smile that’s a little stained and is preventing you from feeling like your confident self, Dr. Steven Holbrook can whiten your teeth just in time for the holidays.

Whitening Trays

Different dentists have different methods used to whiten teeth. Here at Dr. Steven Holbrooks office, however, he likes to use customized whitening trays to give patients a whiter, more vibrant looking smile. During your initial appointment, Dr. Holbrook will take molds of your mouth to create the trays— unlike over-the-counter whitening trays; these customized ones are designed to fit around every contour of your mouth.

During your second appointment, Dr. Holbrook will make sure that your new trays fit your mouth and will make any tweaks or adjustments as necessary. Then, he will send you home with your new trays and a whitening gel to put in them. You can either wear them twice a day for 30 minutes at a time, or you can wear them while you sleep— whatever way you prefer. After about a couple of weeks, patients notice a visibly whiter smile— which gives you just enough time to get the smile of your dreams before all of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

One thing that many patients aren’t aware of is that dental whitening can only be used on natural teeth and teeth that are stained— not teeth that are discolored due to things such as the use of tetracycline. During your initial appointment, Dr. Holbrook will determine whether or not he thinks whitening will be successful for you.

Don’t let a discolored smile ruin your holidays. Schedule your whitening consultation at our Albuquerque office today!
