For the Sake of Your Teeth: 3 Beverages to Never Drink

For the Sake of Your Teeth: 3 Beverages to Never Drink | Steven E. Holbrook, DMD | Albuquerque, NM You are what you eat, and drink. Everyone knows that water is the best thing you can drink for your body and your mouth’s health, but it’s often the last thing people choose to drink. The next time you reach for a drink other than water, remember that you may be causing more harm than good to your teeth. This article will list three beverages never to drink. Read on to learn more.

Sports Drinks

Sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade now grace virtually every fountain machine out there. However, they are one of the worst things you can drink for your teeth. Containing tons of sugar, sports drinks will only add to your daily caloric intake and coat your teeth. And, unless you are running a big race or doing a strenuous workout, your body doesn’t need all of the electrolytes that these sports drinks contain.

Soda

Both diet and regular soda can erode away at your enamel and lead to cavities. Containing ingredients like brown syrup and endless amounts of sugar, soda may as well be your mouth’s number one enemy.

Juice

Most juice contains a combination of natural fruit sugars and regular sugar to make it that much more enticing. And although you may assume that juice is a healthy alternative, all of that sugar can quickly lead to a mouth full of cavities and a bunch of extra calories to boot. If you do find an all-natural juice with no added sugars, make sure to brush your teeth directly afterward.

Before you grab a sports drink, soda, or juice, make sure to think twice about drinking it for the sake of your teeth.
