Whether you are a business professional, work from home, or are even retired, nothing can put a damper on your appearance quite like a mouth full of missing teeth. And although you can consider becoming a professional pirate, Dr. Steven Holbrook has a few options to help you restore your smile including dental implants.
Depending on the health of your gums and jaw structure, Dr. Steven Holbrook may recommend that you get dental implants. By surgically implanting a metal rod into your gums and then placing a crown over the top, dental implants act almost exactly like a natural tooth. As one of the most important parts of dental implant surgery, it’s important that you know exactly how to prepare.
Fast
Depending on what type of anesthesia we are using for your surgery, we may encourage you to fast for around 4-12 hours beforehand so that it doesn’t upset your stomach. Before your surgery, we will call you and let you know exactly how long you need to fast for.
Meal Preparation
For the first few days or even up to a week after your implant surgery, your mouth will be sore and swollen which means that you won’t be able to eat hard-to-chew foods like steak and pizza. To make your recovery easier, try making some easy-to-chew beforehand like pasta, mashed potatoes, soup, and smoothies. That way, as soon as you get home, you can focus on resting.
Medications
Depending on your current health and any medications that you regularly take, we may recommend that you stop using them a few weeks beforehand. During your initial consultation with Dr. Steven Holbrook, he will go over your medical history.
